I am skeptical, like I said before I need to see the evidence for myself but I believe that I am a optimistic skeptic as I would like to believe that there is something more after we die in this reality. I just have to find the evidence!.

The research I do and the data I collect is just for me really. I have no need to fake anything as all I would be doing is lying to myself which will not get me very far. Besides I don’t want my 15 minutes of fame!

I choose to research EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomena). It is the Phenomenon of voices (of supposed spirits) appearing on electronic recording devices.
As I am a techie person who has been into IT since 1981, then researching Electronic Voice Phenomenon was the obvious choice to make for me as it’s a mixture of IT, Electronic and the Paranormal, also the equipment is really cheap to buy and very easy to analyse the data (Recordings) on PC workstations etc.

For the first couple of years I have now condensed it all down to this page as it was just 100’s of hours of recording.

Getting Equipment – Late 2013
My first steps of EVP research started in late 2013 when I acquired some digital recorders, I bought 2 cheap 8GB recorders from eBay plus a more expensive Olympus DM-770. The reason for 2 types is that one is of very good quality from a branded market leader, the other 2 are cheap recorders from some Chinese company off eBay.

Some paranormal people say the noisier the recorded data from static is what actually helps, then there are others who say a good quality recorder works better. So I am trying the 2 types.

To monitor the recordings I am going to use the great audio software package called Audacity.

Building, Testing & Research – 2015
I would have one recorder to record the sessions plus the other recorder I would place some way off to record the ambient noises from my surroundings so I could discount things like cars, birds, people walking or people talking as they pasted my location. I would use this as my control audio source.
I tried several EVP sessions a day which consisted of setting the recorders to record and go about asking questions and leave about 30 seconds between each question for any potential answers.

I visited several different locations ranging from my house to several graveyards BUT I did not go to any supposed haunted locations.

My initial belief was that if spirits are around us then no matter where I would be there should be a spirit nearby.
I did not get a single recording of any spirit voices despite recording over 710 hours.

December 2017
My father died and now I thought that if there was any chance of getting a voice on a recorder then it would be from my father but still after another 2 more years of trying at night in my house, his house and his garage workshop I still did not get any voices at all though I did experience a few things that was really weird experiences.

The COVID Year 2020
I did not do much, what with COVID-19 (I caught it in March 2020 just after moving jobs to the local secondary school) and lock-downs. Due to the school being shut most of the year because of COVID I spent many days doing extra hours because the school was empty and we could do much more site work and not worry about kids falling into things or touching things. Now it’s rolling into 2021 I am going to try and get back into research & testing more regardless of what people might say.

Year 2021
I did a couple of 100 hours over the year, again at various locations which produced nothing!

Year 2022
I did about 50 hours over the year, again at various locations which produced nothing!

Year 2023
I did not do much at all as real life got in the way

Year 2024
I did not do much at all as real life got in the way but I have got the urge to start again as normal life has eased off, I have changed jobs which means I work from 4am to approx 10am which gives me a lot more time during the day to do stuff.

Late November 2024
I have just gone to get my recorders out of my desk drawer (they were there 2 weeks earlier when I cleaned my desk) but now they have disappeared! So I have purchased another Olympus DM-770 but I think I will use 2 old identical Sony mobile pones as audio recorders instead of buying the same 8GB Chinese recorders to save a bit of money.

Mid March 2025
My missing recorders (that disappeared from my desk drawer) have just turned up out of the blue, I opened my desk drawer and there they were right next to the 2 new ones I had just recently bought, strange things happen.

Year 2025
I did 23 hours over the year, again at various locations which produced nothing!

Year 2026
So far I have not done anything much apart from a Ghost Hunting session at the Commandery in Worcester which got no results.
