White noise is a sound made by combining lots of frequencies at once, with about equal intensity across the audible range.

Some investigators say it helps with capturing EVP's if you load the environment with white noise or play directly into your recorders microphone socket background white noise to mimic a ghost box.

I have collected and created several different types of white noise files to use with my investigations. Using a pre-recorded white noise files helps any processing later on as you can subtract the noise from your EVP recording, also if you do get something like voices or EVP on your recording you can go back to the original white noise file and check what was actually playing at the time of capture for comparison.

White Noise
White noise is a type of noise where lots of frequencies are combined at once, so it sounds 'hissing'.
Brown Noise
Brown noise (also called red noise) is a type of noise where lower frequencies are stronger than higher frequencies, so it sounds 'deeper' and 'more muffled' than white noise.
It’s commonly described as having a sound similar to steady rain or thunder—often used for relaxation or sleep because the sound can mask background noises.
Pink Noise
Pink noise is a type of noise where lower frequencies are stronger than higher frequencies (so the overall spectrum is balanced so each octave has about the same energy).
It’s often described as sounding softer/smoother than white noise, and many people use it for sleep or focus to mask other sounds
Chrome Noise
Chrome noise a high pitch metallic scratchy type of noise.
Sweep Noise
Sweep noise a type of noise you hear when a ghost box is sweeping across AM frequencies (ie skipping).
